St. Lawrence Square

St. Lawrence Square is the hub of our beautiful Nuremberg. Here, history meets hustle and bustle. The area around St. Lawrence Church, one of the oldest and most impressive buildings in the city and a symbol of it, is always full of life. There’s always something going on here. That’s not only because it is located next to the main shopping streets which are the center of Nuremberg’s retail sector. St. Lawrence Square is a meeting place in the truest sense of the word. Who hasn’t said “let’s meet in front of St. Lawrence”? No wonder, because it’s the perfect spot to go on in all directions.

There is a drinking fountain at Hallplatz. From the beginning of May until the end of October you can drink water and fill up a bottle here for free.

But you don’t have to go too far, because the neighborhood itself is full of possibilities: culinary variety and cultural highlights. Despite the busy commercial traffic in the nearby banks and shops, St. Lawrence Square can be a cozy place. With the creation of more green spaces, the area invites you to relax awhile. And one thing is certain: There will always be at least one busker making music while you visit St. Lawrence Square.

Nuremberg is a city of sundials! And you can also discover some of these gems in the Lorenzer Platz district. At Nassauerhaus in Karolinenstraße 2, you can even find 2 different clocks on one house. One with a pole bar and one with a pole bracket! The best thing to do here is to use a zoom lens to make all the details of the clocks visible.
When you think of fountains in Nuremberg, the first thing that comes to mind is the "schöne Brunnen" (beautiful fountain), the "Neptun-Brunnen" (Neptune fountain) or the "Ehekarussel" (marriage carousel). But the Tugendbrunnen also offers many exciting details that can be captured with a zoom lens or with a wide-angle lens for exciting perspectives! With the Lorenzkirche in the blurred background (open aperture), this is certainly a highlight.
Not only the ivy-covered corner house in Katharinengasse is a highlight, but also the surrounding streets and alleyways. Especially in this area, moods can be captured brilliantly at sunrise. Shadow plays can be interesting, but I always find the photos with direct backlighting particularly beautiful to look at.
Right next to the Lorenzkirche you will find another magnificent building made of beautiful sandstone, which houses the Bible Museum, among other things. I'm particularly taken with the roofs and gables here, which leave plenty of room for photographic gimmicks with their steps.
Next to the imposing Lorenzkirche, easy to miss and unfortunately often surrounded by market stalls on weekdays, is the Wetterhäusschen directly in front of the entrance to the Mohrenapotheke. If you're lucky and there are no stalls set up, you'll get some great shots in combination with the Lorenzkirche! Especially with a wide-angle lens, you'll get great compositions of the entire scenery. My recommendation: at night or early in the morning, the illuminated clock is a very special eye-catcher!
