Albrecht Dürer House
Where the master lived and worked
Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528) is Germany’s most famous graphic artist, painter and art theorist. His AD logo is world-famous and marks most of his works. His copper and wood prints are available in the thousands and made him known internationally. His portraits and altars, which can be seen today in the largest museums in the world, were also treasured.

© Stadtarchiv Nürnberg A41_II_LR_729_32_a Dürer lived and worked in this house at the foot of the Nuremberg Imperial Castle from 1509 until his death. It’s almost a miracle that the original building remained mostly intact over the centuries and it’s the only remaining house of a Renaissance artist outside of Italy. In 1828, the city opened the Albrecht Dürer House as the first memorial to an artist in the world. Since 1871, it has been a museum.
