Sister Cities Market

A trip around the world

What's this? A little Christmas Market right next to the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt? This cute village of booths at the Rathausplatz is the Sister Cities Market and should not be missed on a visit to the Christmas Market! There, surrounded by the scent of international specialties, you can have a small but authentic glimpse into the countries of Nuremberg's partner cities, friendly communities and selected regions - and this since 1985!

You can see that the Sister Cities Market has given Nuremberg an international flair for many years, when stands from partner cities such as Cordoba (Spain), Glasgow (Scotland), Kavala (Greece), Nice (France), Prague (Czech Republic), San Carlos (Nicaragua), Santiago de Cuba (Cuba), Shenzhen (China) or Venice (Italy) take visitors on a trip around the world. You'll find Greek honey or Nicaraguan coffee, tea from Togo or Scottish whiskey. Christmas decorations from a variety of countries are on offer as well as wooden toys from Nicaragua, wood carvings from South Tyrol, wooly-warm accessories and textiles, Chinese silk scarves or cosmetics made with salt from the Dead Sea. The products are as diverse as the countries which are represented here! And the best thing about it: Often the profits are donated to charitable projects and institutions in the home countries.

In addition to international gift ideas, there are naturally typical food specialties! As you walk among the aisles you can warm yourself with hot beverages such as Turkish tea, Montenegran "Sljivac" plum brandy, Scottish "Hot Toddy" or South Tyrolian mulled wine - which makes this an absolute favorite and meeting point for locals. A completely different taste experience is offered by the many variations of Christmas cookies and sweets: Whether Spanish, Turkish or Greek. And those in the know swear by the Christmas stollen from Thuringia.
