The Wine Trade

at the Wine Market

In the past there were strict regulations for the trade in wine – it could only be sold directly from the wagon on which it was transported, for example. A cleardistribution of tasks ensured order then and a smile today:

Hüter Responsible for a smooth operation at the market

Weinkieser - also called Euterer or Weinversucher (wine tester), schätzer or probierer – r - Tested the goods for quality

Visierer - Controlled the quantity in the casks

Schröter - Loaded and unloaded the wagons and stored the unsold wine

Anstecher - Hired by private individuals including inn keepers to open the barrels, as they were not allowed to do it themselves
