Le Méridien Grand Hotel Nürnberg
Timeless elegance & modern comfort in the historic city centre
What is now a renowned hotel with 190 rooms was originally a farmhouse. The first owner purchased it along with the neighboring property and built the Grand Hotel on the farmhouse's foundation, initially named Palasthotel Fürstenhof. When it first opened its doors in 1896, it had 80 rooms, no running water, and only one bathroom that all the guests shared.
What is a Grand Hotel?
Contrary to popular belief, "Grand Hotel" is not a designation for a hotel chain but an international title for high-class hotels with a long history. When the first hotels of this kind emerged at the end of the 18th century, there was no star rating system. A Grand Hotel was essentially the five-star accommodation of its time.
Between History & Modernity
The historic charm is one of the many features that make the Grand Hotel special. Parts of the hotel, such as the famous ballroom, have been preserved in their original state to this day! This is partly because the building, constructed at the end of the 19th century, is a listed monument. The hotel has made it its mission to blend modern luxury with historical highlights.
Good to know! The Le Méridien Grand Hotel Nuremberg is Green Key certified!
Our tip:
The restaurant at the Grand Hotel isn't just for hotel guests. The Brasserie menu features creative creations from regional Franconian cuisine paired with international influences. Some days, you can even enjoy live piano music.
For a special highlight, you can visit a Musical Dinner Show or a Crime Dinner. In the afternoon, the café serves homemade cakes, and in the evening, the bar offers an array of unique drinks.
Fun Fact:
What would a visit to Nuremberg be without gingerbread? Exactly. That's why, in addition to the classic mini-bar snacks, you'll find gingerbread from Lebküchnerei Dornauer, located in the Handwerkerhof across the street, in the Grand Hotel.
Christoph Holzhauer
Since 2018, the native Swabian has been the hotel director of the Grand Hotel. He knew he wanted to go into the hotel business since he was a child and is more than happy that he never gave up on his dream: "I am exactly what I always wanted to be as a little boy, and I still love the hospitality industry just as much as I did back then."
The Grand Hotel has hosted them all!
Including music stars like the Beatles, ABBA, or Robbie Williams, world-class football teams, international figures from politics and world affairs, and even the Dalai Lama. Yes, you heard that right. However, it's worth noting that cinematic room destruction hasn't always been the case (it wasn't the Dalai Lama, we can assure you), but it's far from being the norm. One thing that is particularly important to Hotel Director Christoph Holzhauer is, "A guest is a guest, no matter how famous. Everyone should feel like a star with us."
