The Wine Market has had it´s name for centuries and is still called like this today. It stretches from the Winklergasse to the Weißgerbergasse and originally reached as far south as the Karl- and Winklerstraße.

Its transformation into a pedestrian zone in March 2021 underscores its relaxed atmosphere. The planting containers for grape vines not only provide greenery for the space, but also emphasize its long history. High-quality wooden seating invites you to pause and enjoy. Cafés, bars, restaurants and small shops round out this stylish flair and make the Wine Market into a very special place on the Sebald side of the Old Town.

In the past, wines from all over Germany were sold here on market days. Since then, the square has been called “Wine Market”. Wines that were not sold were stored in the “Leisten” cellar, north of the house Weinmarkt 11, and in the Weinstadel until the next market day.
